Anja is a lovely friendly girl - who has had enough bad luck in her life. She was adopted from us as a kitten by a family, who did not care for her properly. She was returned to us as a young adult, not castrated and glad to be back. She is patiently waiting for a new home, one she can enjoy and be part of a family. Wacky Wenda!

Gordi (negro/blanco) was in very poor conditionwhen he was brought into the shelter as a tiny kitten. Our vet tookhim home and after some good food and correct treatment he is now a happy,healthy kitten who loves to be around people, purring continuously. Gordi has had his vaccinations and is ready for a permanent home.

Jody (tortuga) was found in the garden of one ofour volunteers. She is a very friendly little girl with gorgeousgreen eyes. Unfortunately she could not cope living in the shelterwith so many other cats and became very stressed. She has been infoster care for some time now and needs to be placed in a permanent, lovinghome. She would be quite happy living with one or two other cats aslong as she has plenty of attention from her humans. Her favouritetrick is to jump on your shoulder and snuggle up. Jody has beenblood tested, sterilised and vaccinated.

These two kitten/cats were abandoned and left to die in the campo when they were only three weeks old. Luckily they were found by some young Spanish guys walking their dog, who bought them to the shelter. They spent some weeks in foster care until they were fit enough to come into Aldea. Cesar is a big 'bruiser' of a cat, while his sister Cali is more sedate. They both love to play and are very happy when given human attention. Both are sterilised, blood-tested and vaccinated. These two handsome boys and their sister were found on the roof of the shelter, trying to find a way in to get some food, as they were starving. Someone had obviously abandoned them outside. Their sister was lucky enough to find a home but Paulo and Peter wait everyday for the volunteers to arrive and give them some attention. They are both castrated, blood-tested and vaccinated. These two sisters were abandoned with four other siblings outside the shelter. The others have all been adopted, but, as normal, the black ones are not so lucky. Heidi, Ignacio, Ivory and Isidro

These four kittens/cats were abandoned in a box outside the shelter with five other kittens when they were quite young. All were in very poor condition and starting with the flu. Luckily we were in time to give treatment, and after lots of TLC and good food, they quickly recovered. All of them have now been sterilised, bloodtested, and have had their vaccinations and are ready for permanent new homes.

Alicia & Adam

These two young cats were abandoned outside the shelter. At first we thought they were brother and sister, but the vet tells us that Alicia is older. They are so close, and cry when separated, so we must presume that they are mother and son. Even though they have a bed each, they always cuddle up together in the same one. Alicia loves people while Adam was a bit more reserved, but now, he has decided we are not going to hurt him and enjoys being made a fuss of. Both cats are sterilised, blood tested and started their vaccinations.

These two kittens were abandoned in somebody's garden. They were very frightened and starving. After a few weeks in foster care, they are slowly coming around to trust people again. Finela & Herbi

These gorgeous kittens were both abandoned near Denia Port. They have become great friends and love to play and curl up together. They both are very affectionate and purr like motors when they are given attention. As Herbi is pure white, we feel that it would be better for his health to be an indoor cat, or have a home in a northern European country, away from the Spanish sun. Both kittens have started their vaccinations.

Cute Cuddly Zorbi needs you!

Zorbi is a quite a lively young cat who came to us when his elderly owner went into residential care. He like to be outside so a garden is a must.

We put Zorbi in our main area to give him more freedom but his first reaction was shock - to be with so many other cats and he was very sad. He has settled down but is desperate for a family of his own. Come and visit him - he is so cute and fluffy - you are sure to like him.

IVY

Ivy was found outside the shelter by a volunteer early one December morning. She had been left at our door and was lost, wondering why she was not at home, with food, warmth and companionship. She is a very friendly cat who loves to know what is going on. She likes to play tricks on the volunteers and hide in the food cupboard! She will make a great family pet, with children and dogs we would say she has no problem.

VIOLET

Violet was found in a bin with some other kittens, outside the dog shelter. She was pulled from the bin and brought to our shelter by a volunteer. She is a lovely, soft, gentle cat who will make a great friend in the family. Give her a chance!

KAYLA & KIEFER

These two beauties were found by a shopper, in a closed box in Lidl car park. They were trapped inside, with no food or water, only screwed up newspaper - in 30 degree heat. The kind lady had no idea what to do, called a friend who looked on the internet and found our telephone number. These two youngsters are wonderful, happy cats and deserve a real home, with people who will love them.

HEIDI

Heidi was part of a group of 9 kittens found in a box outside the shelter. A mummy was with them, she had jumped out of the box and was looking around for help. The kittens were showing signs of flu and looked as though they had not been well cared for so we took them straight into foster care. Many of the kittens were adopted, but Heidi was not so lucky. She has lovely markings and is a sweet little girl. Can you find a home in your family for her?

Elmo & Elvira

Elmo will never win a prize for his looks, with his long skinny legs and slim body (inherited from mum who was part Siamese). However, he is a sweet, talkative boy who just loves to have his tummy tickled, and also likes to kiss you under the chin. He and his sister Elvira were abandoned at the beach with their mum and four other siblings, when then were only a few weeks old.

Elmo and Elvira are both sterilised, blood-tested and vaccinated. Their mum and siblings have all been adopted. Please give them a chance of a loving permanent home. D.O.B. 01/05/2010

All cats below in the following section are domestic, blood tested, castrated/sterilised and have their flu vaccinations. Some have been with us for a long time and really need a home of their own with daily contact to people and "normal life".

These cats have all been abandoned by their previous owners for many different reasons.... our short term shelter is no place for these precious pets to live long term.

If you are interested in considering a new cat, plesae come and visit us, spend times with the cats and see which cat bonds with you, becoming your new playfriend and latest family member.

URSA

Ursa (& Ushka adopted) were found in a residents garden as babies. The lady found homes for two of the siblings, but these two had no protection, food or water, living in an abandoned garden so they were brought to Aldea. Ursa is a striking cat, with beautiful markings. She gets on well with other cats and enjoy to spend their time outside in the sun.

Mini is still waiting

Mini is a lively, friendly, playful young female cat with shiny black fur. Since she was 3 weeks old she has lived in an apartment without other animals: her best friend was a young girl who unfortunately produced an allergy and so Mini had to be re-homed. She has been living with us since the end of February 2010 and is patiently waiting for a new home. She gets on with the other cats in our mixed area and enjoys to be outside now - can you give her a place in your life and home?

Tiara was found wandering on an urbanisation. She was desperate for affection and was trying to follow people into their homes. Tiara loves people, but is not happy around too many other cats, so needs a home where she can have space to please herself!

MITZI

Mitzi was found in the garden of holiday makers, where they fed her for a while. She was thin and hungry when they met her. Unfortunately, the time came for them to leave so she was again without food and shelter. She made her way to another neighbour, who began to feed her, but they also had finished their holiday, so they contacted Aldea Felina for help. She is now living in our shelter waiting for her new home and loving family. She is a fun friendly cat, in good health.

ONYX

Onyx was found by a local resident, hiding under a bush, crying for help. He was surrounded by local hunting dogs and was very afraid. He had been there for a few days and after realising he needed attention, she came to his rescue and then began to feed him. He was very thin and obviously had not eaten for quite a while. After a visit to the vet to make sure he was not injured he was brought to Aldea. He is a very affectionate, chatty young cat who may have been thrown out, or got into a car and found himself too far away from home to return.

BOBI

Bobi is from a group of very young kittens who were left in a bin in the hot sun to die, one summer. When the police picked them up and brought them to us they were very dehydrated and showing signs of flu. We were too late to save some of the group but Bobi and 2 others survived. He loves to play, fight and tumble with friends and is deserving of a home to call his own. He plays well with Pepsi. Can you take him under your wing?

CORA

Cora is a longer term resident at Aldea. She was originally abandoned at the door to the shelter and being a black cat, was not lucky enough to be adopted while she was young. However, her lucky time came in 2010 and she was adopted into a lovely family who have other cats from Aldea. After 6 months, the broken hearted family had to return Cora to us as she had become quite dominant and was not happy with the other cats. She has settled down well again but really deserves another chance to get it right. She is a slim, very people friendly cat and would make a lovely addition to your family.

Who is Aldea Felina?

Aldea Felina (means “cats village” in Spanish) is a voluntary run Association founded by veterinarian Maria-Luisa Rico Jerez to look after the welfare of wild and abandoned cats in Dénia (Alicante Region), Spain.

Our cats live in an abandoned railway posthouse which is due to be reclaimed by the Denia Council to make a museum as part of the new Greenway project. While we are still occupying the premises you are most welcome to visit us and see what we are about, how our cats live and how we try and help, which ever way we can. Unfortunately we are shy to publish the address as we have been receivers of attacks in the past, leaving our cats vunerable to those who do not like cats and want to harm them or put them in danger. We hope you understand that genuinely interested people will call to get directions.

Aldea needs volunteers!

We desperately need help on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday mornings in our shelter. In exchange for 4 hours of your week, you will meet other like minded volunteers, make new friends and be part of a very important team who care for our cats and kittens; to feed and water them, refreshing sleeping areas & cleaning their litter trays. The best part is you get to play with them and groom them for as long as you want! A handbook giving our general guidelines and lots of useful information is provided along with cleaning products and gloves. If you would like to help on one or more of these days and join our rota, please phone Lynda on 648 100 629. Our cats will love you! As will the volunteers currently working overtime! :)

We are very much in need of administration help: to assist with paperwork and communication flow. If you have skills with a PC, in organisation and dealing with the public please join our team. For more information please email us at aldea_felina@msn.com. English language a minimum (also written) and Spanish/German an advantage.

Also needed are:
* foster parents: to care for our cats at home: kittens, illness and socialising.
* street cat carers: to feed local castrated colonies and catch newcomers for castration.
* shelter carers: it is summer season and we are very short some days to cover shifts - plesae help the cats and have fun at the same time!

We are as always in need of help, so please contact us if you can spare a few hours a week! Our Association is 100% dependent on volunteers and donations.

The last couple of years have been very difficult financially for all charities and Aldea Felina is no exception. We rely 100% on voluntary donations. The donations received from Denia Town Council only helps us towards the costs of our "street cat castration program". However, in 2009 we received no financial support from the town hall and our street cat program bills came to over 9,000 euros. 2010 looks very bleak for Aldea Felina too, with no offer yet to donate this year either.
Any amount of cash, however small, will help us - please see below the different ways you can donate. Shopping in our charity shop is good for your budget and at the same time helps us.

Ginny was a frightened 4 week old kitten when she was rescued by one of our volunteers in April 2007; born from a wild mother living in the streets at the bottom of the Montgo. She was sheltering from the busy traffic under a bush with her brothers and sisters. It has taken time for her to trust people but she is now quite happy to be stroked and made a fuss of. She is nosey and loves to spend time in the office so she can keep an eye on the comings and goings. She is blood tested, sterilised and vaccinated. It is about time she had a place to call home don't you think?

Fifi and her brother Francisco have been with us since they were babies (born April 2006), abandoned at the door of the shelter. As they were not very domestic they have taken time to trust people and although they are not lap cats they would be good "mousers", able to live inside and outside, helping keep the garden clear of visitors!

Felicity is quite timid but comes immediately if you have a brush in your hand. She was abandoned as a kitten and is now living in our general group area waiting for a new home. She was born approx. 1st May 2007, is castrated, vaccinated and blood tested.
